Postpartum Periods : Dip in Breast Milk Supply When Aunt-Flo Shows Up

You know that feeling when everything just falls into place? Well, I had that moment when I woke up to my first postpartum period. I was only 3 months postpartum! Not only was I surprised that it happened so quickly but thinking back over my last jounryes, my milk supply hadn’t dipped this time. I think it’s because this time, I’ve been on a strict pumping schedule, taking supplements, and drinking lactation teas.

I know firsthand how tough it can be to maintain milk supply, especially if you have low supply like I do. That’s why I pump every two hours and take supplements to help increase my supply. But did you know that you should take certain supplements to help avoid your supply dipping right before and during your postpartum period? That’s right, Potassium, Magnesium, Sodium, and Calcium help maintain your milk supply during that time of the month and help keep your electrolytes in check. And if you’re not into taking several pills at once, Nikki from Cookies, Then Milk has created Quick Boost Lactation Capsules Period which might be worth checking out!

I also recommend drinking Earth Mama and Mother’s Milk with Fenugreek to help increase and maintain milk supply. But be careful with Fenugreek because it can decrease supply for some moms. If you’re struggling with supply, try adding in these supplements and power pump at least once a day for five days during your period. You got this!
